How it's built.
Open-palm construction with a segmented knuckle deck that stays put when the hand opens for a grip — a single-piece deck slides out of position the moment a fighter clinches.
The thumb is left free-moving with a protective sleeve, and the wrist strap is cut narrow enough not to foul a gi or rash guard.
